Illegible text

Postby jhald » Sun Jul 12, 2015 7:36 am

Attempted to compare two docs of Open Office text (.odt), and the text is jubberish.
What's the deal with this?
Is this what the "Unpacking" is for?
The files are not compressed . . . unless without my knowledge.

Any help on this?
Thanks

Unpacking refers to running a converter before comparing the text. In the specific case of .odt files, the binary format actually always is a zip archive. As a user you don't need to be aware of this. Also, there is no way of preventing .odt files from being a zip archive.

The jubberish you saw means that the unpacking process didn't work.

For .odt files, there are two unpackers:
  1. If you have a licence of Word 2007 or newer on your computer, you can use the CompareMSWordFiles.sct unpacker that comes bundled with WinMerge.
  2. Even without Word, you can use the xdocdiffPlugin unpacker.
