Comparing two disconnected folder trees offline

Hello,

Just a quick question that I'm sure an expert can address in no time at all.

My friend and I have a large collection of files in complex folder structures. One exists in his network, and mine in mine and the two are not connectable at the same time from any single point.

So is there any offline way that he could install Winmerge, to do a dump of his stuff, send me that file. Then I could install Winmerge and, do a dump of mine, then compare the two dump files?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Howdy Mark,
If you're still trying to compare disparate folders, or even the same folder over time, you can easily create a text file of the folder structure for comparison in WinMerge.
Here is an example that works in any Windows Console (cmd.exe):
Code: Select all
dir /s /b > %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\files.txt

The resulting file will list all files in all subdirectories (/s) in the folder that you run the command in and will appear on your Desktop for comparison.

I hope this helps.
