About Developers-forum

Postby kimmov » Mon Oct 20, 2008 3:59 pm

This is the new Developers / Development -forum. The old SourceForge.net Developers forum should not be used anymore.

This forum, like the old one requires having Sf.net account. Unregistered users can read the forum but only registered users can post and reply to posts. Unfortunately this forum requires entering Sf.net account username and password even if you have already logged into Sf.net. But I hope this is minor annoyance. And small price for the lot better forums.

Please keep the discussion in this forum somehow related to WinMerge development. If you want to discuss about specific tracker item, provide a link to the item using our shortcut URLs. E.g. Patch #2181628 Fix manual URLs in Readme.txt.

This post in the old forum asks people to use the new forum:
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php? ... m_id=41637

There have been a few dozen posts in the old forum since that posting. Can one more "Use the new forum" posting be made in the old forum, and then posting turned off over there? It's extra work for both users and developers to need to check both locations for answers.

Unfortunately that is not possible with original Sf.net forums. For forums admins can only select if the forum is public (private is only visible for developers) and if anonymous postings are allowed. This is one of the major problems with those forums that there is not much to tweak in them. No possibility to mark postings as sticky etc. So only thing we can do is post about new forums now and then and hope people will find new forums better in future.

We cannot hide the forums since then old discussions weren't available for other than developers. And there certainly is good info that can be found with find-feature.
