comparison result wrong

Postby 200809w » Sun Aug 09, 2020 3:31 pm

If I compare two directories on two different drives, WM (2.16.4. X64) identifies the files in it as 'left only' and 'right only'. Just the files, not the directories. But the files are identical and WM confirms that when I compare the single files only. What could be the reason for this? My suspicion is that is has something to do with the first drive being a HDD and the second a SSD.

I also have this problem.

I bought a large thumb drive and copied my E: (an HDD) drive to it. Then I did:

1. a WinMerge compare and it shows some files as different, with 'Folders are different' and 'Files are different'.
2. select a file and Copy -> Right to Left
3. the Comparison result shows 'identical'
4. then WinMerge Refresh.
5. it again shows 'Files are different'

I tried this several times with the same result.

I read this https://manual.winmerge.org/en/Compare_dirs.html
and followed 'For advanced users' advice and changed the QuickMethodLimit value to 8 MB, with no apparent difference in results.
